Yea its bad English but I really don't care. Today kiddies we were lucky enough to catch up with the big homie Fuller from FULLER to get up to speed on the new spring line as well as pick his brain a lil bit and see who's taking NCAA's this year. Well enough of me let see what Fuller had to say.
WWB: State your name gangsta.
F: My name is Fuller Moehagen. AKA Fuller Moe.
[My dude has so much juice he named it after himself.]
WWB:What set you rep?
F:I'm repping FULLER out of the mighty Midwest.
WWB:How long you been at this?
F: We're a young brand. I've been working on this since early 2007, so just over a year now. I recently brought my friend Shannon on board to work with me on this though. But I call him Leroy. Make sure that goes in there. In terms of designing...I've been doing that for a number of years.
WWB: What does your brand bring to the table?
F:We're not trying to reinvent the wheel. You know...a shirt is a shirt, a crewneck is a crewneck and so on. I think what we bring to the table is something that the Midwest has been lacking for a very long time, if not always. I started all of this out of necessity. Like, the East and West coasts have so many staple brands that represent where they're from, but that wasn't the case in the Midwest. I mean, there have always been a few "clothing companies" from here, and I'm not knocking them but it seemed like they were always lacking in some department. You know, whether it was the quality of fabric used, construction, design execution and concept...the list goes on. I feel like we're the first brand to encompass all of those things and in addition we have the blog, the website, interviews at random, etc. Basically, we want to do more than just make some shirts we think are "cool" and try to push them on kids. We're doing more than that.
WWB: When did it hit you? Like, I was built for this shit.
F: Haha...that's a good question. I don't know that I'm "built" for this shit...but it's something that I enjoy without a doubt. I guess when I realized there was actually a venue where I could express my strong taste for street and skate culture, design, fashion and even journalism to some extent...that's when it hit me. Like, wow...I can do all of this stuff and people actually want to hear it and see it. It feels good to find something that's so worth pursuing, you know?
WWB: Where do you see Fuller in 10 years?
F: Just bigger and better than ever I guess. I don't know, ten years is a long time! Haha, honestly I would love to open a boutique of my own at some point. But it's hard to say what we'll be doing as a brand or what I'll be doing in a decade. That's assuming that humanity will still exist in 2018. We're just taking it a day at a time, as cliche as that sounds. Ten years ago I probably would have said I'd be in the NBA...so maybe that's what I'll say now. Yeah, in ten years I hope to be in the NBA. As the dude that brings people Gatorade.
WWB: Do you ever get like designers block? (If that even makes sense)
because as a writer I can honestly say I've sat down numerous times and just
ice grilled the keyboard.
F: Man, what happens more often than designer's block is that I'll have an idea in my head that sounds really dope...but then I'll try to knock it out and a couple hours later....I'm over it. Going...man, this doesn't look good at all, you know? Haha...but usually I'll sit on it a couple days, go back and get it done right. I come up with new ideas everyday for sure though. Some of them I use, some end up on the back burner. But the "notes" section of my phone is totally filled up and there's usually something written on my left hand 24/7, haha.
WWB: With the state of upcoming t-shirt companies and the popularity of
skateboarding how you think that will play into your success?
F: You know, I've always been intrigued with skate culture. When I was in middle school, like...around 1996-97...aggressive skating was super, super popular. Straight up, I didn't skate at all. But I still wore the shirts and all my friends skated. I just really loved the aesthetic. Hopefully that continues its comeback because I'd love to have an aggressive skate team in the near future. Skateboarding is definitely cool also, but that was never my thing. Again, I was always into the culture and I think a lot of kids that skateboard are into our brand, at least we hope for that. They definitely influence what we do. Whenever we see kids skateboarding while we're on the road, we make a point to talk to them, give them stickers and shit. If we can encourage them to keep doing their thing and it keeps them out of trouble, we're all about it.
WWB: Now just so our readers can get an idea of who the man behind Fuller is we
are going to play a game of favorites on some Rapidfire status?
Fire!
WWB:Sneakers?
F:I'm a Nike man, can't deny it.
WWB:Beverage?
F: I have an affinity for energy drinks. Specifically, Rockstar Punch and Java Monster drinks. Totally horrible for you...I know...but whatever. They're so good!
Song?
F: Right now or is this an all-time thing? I'll just say "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. It's a safe response no matter what the question is.
WWB:Food?
F:I do enjoy Chipotle...I don't think I have one favorite type of food though. I definitely enjoy barbecuing just because of the comradery that goes along with it. I'll do a lot of that this summer, like block party style.
WWB:Piece you've done?F:As of now, my favorite pieces haven't been released yet. They're either being printed as we speak or are sitting inside of this thing on my desk. But even in saying that, it's hard to pick just one. You know, who's your favorite child? Same shit.
WWB:Biggie or Pac?
F:Man...that's really hard. I can safely say that I had a Biggie shirt growing up and still have it to this day...but I had more Pac albums than Notorious. Let's see, I remember defending Tupac to one of my friends growing up...so maybe that's your answer. I'll say Tupac on this one.
WWB:Starr or Farve?F:You know, I spent the majority of my life watching Brett Favre play football for Green Bay, so that has to be my answer. You can put him against whoever you want and my answer will always be Favre.
WWB:If you could take one thing from your childhood what would it be?
F:I think it would be all of basketball cards and Starter gear I had. Because I would sell it on eBay and fund the next ten seasons of FULLER, haha. For real though, it would be nice to relive those days again. It's cool to see that stuff coming back. Those were some of my favorite times, no doubt.
WWB: Now we all know UNC is gonna win it all but who do you want to take the chip
this year? [I think the hometown Badgers are still alive]
F: We're very much alive! I think we'll beat Davidson and upset Kansas, assuming Villanova doesn't take them out first somehow. You know, that's a tough team...but anything can happen. Both UNC and UCLA are good of course. I guess we'll see how it goes...it will truly be madness.
WWB: Its been a pleasure and I'll have pics of me in my Fuller shirt when it comes it so ya'll know its not a game out here!!! Till tomorrow Legs and Eggs PEACE!!!! PS check out the Spring 08 line at www.fullermidwest.com
